I was lucky enough to conduct a short interview with the Kevin Daniels himself. He doesnʼt give in to what people think he should or shouldnʼt say; he stays one hundred percent true to himself in every way.

Erin O’Connell (CMM) – This is Erin with Chicago Music Magazine’s Local Pulse, I’m here with Kevin Daniels. So Kevin, when did you fall in love with music and why?

Kevin: When I got a car, because I listened to music all the time when I drove around.

Erin (CMM): What song made you fall in love with music?

Kevin: ‘Standing by the Fire’ and ‘Long Neck Bottle’ by Garth Brooks. A lot of those old country songs inspire me.

Erin (CMM): What about those songs made you want to play music?

Kevin: Well at this point I didn’t know I wanted to write music yet. That’s just when I first loved to listen to it.

Erin (CMM): So when did you realize this is what you wanted to do?

Kevin: I got a guitar when I graduated high school, started practicing it a lot, and then I joined a band as a drummer for a bit. That’s when I realized I could sing and play guitar better than the lead singer. So I said to myself, why don’t I do that myself?

Erin (CMM): What has this debut album meant to you?

Kevin: It meant that I have a debut album. It feels great just being able to say I have an album out now. That was a big step.

Erin (CMM): What is one of your favorite tracks off the album and why?

Kevin: “Whiskey, Weed and Cigarettes” and “These Country Roads,” because everyone else likes them the best and I trust my audience.

Erin (CMM): What do you anticipate for a second album?

Kevin: A second album? To be able to say that I did it. I mean, how many people can say they even put out a first album? When I put out a second album I’ll just be happy I was able to do that.

Erin (CMM): Is it fair to say you will always love music?

Kevin: Music is an outlet, it’s nice to be able to do something with it. But I don’t want to be that musician that just says, “Oh man, I love music so much I don’t care what happens with it.” I’m not just doing this for shits and giggles anymore. I want to make a name for myself and keep making albums for as long as I can.

Erin (CMM): Well thank you for taking the time to meet with me. Best of luck on your next album and I look forward to seeing you perform again.
