Anita Lerche – “Sadke Punjab Ton”
Billboard Top-5 Charting Internationally acclaimed award-winning singer, songwriter, composer, and actress, Anita Lerche, is set to perform her highly praised and celebrated South Asian original music including her ever popular Punjabi songs during the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago PCS NIGHT 2017 10th Chicago Bhangra and Gidha Dance Competition, at Meadows Club, 2950 West Golf Road, Rolling Meadows, Illinois 60008, on Saturday, October 14th, at 9:00pm. Lerche is most passionate and renowned for her award-winning work in Punjabi and was the first non-Asian woman from the West to release an album in Punjabi. Earlier this month, she received a “Best International Artist” nomination in one of the highest regarded awards in her field…the prestigious UK Bhangra Awards 2017. Vocally trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, Lerche has sung in a total of sixteen different languages. She keeps her instrument, her unique voice, in top form thanks to her vocal coach, GRAMMY Award-winning singer Darlene Koldenhoven. Lerche first visited India in 2005 and considers Punjab her second home. Now a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, she travels the world entertaining huge crowds with her unique and electrifying performances while promoting the Punjabi language, culture and music. She is a true creative talent, a vocal powerhouse, and an esteemed leader in South Asian music.
“I feel super excited about getting to perform my Punjabi songs for the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago,” explains Lerche. “It’s always fun to perform for a crowd that shares the same love and passion for Punjabi music and culture that I do, and I’m almost certain it will feel like being back in my beloved Punjab. The event showcases the popular Bhangra and Gidha dances and I also see it as a great opportunity to get the younger generations interested in continuing the legacy of Punjabi culture and art. This is my first time performing in Chicago for the vibrant Punjabi community here, so I hope this is going to be the first out of many to come.”

These are very exciting times with the expansion of South Asian music in the United States. Lerche was invited to perform for 400,000 at the Surrey Vaisakhi Parade 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on April 22nd; she provided the opening performance at North Americas most glamorous star-studded, South Asian event, Anokhi Media’s 13th Anniversary Awards-Fashion-Entertainment Show, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Thursday, August 25th, 2016; as well as was the main-stage headline performance at DesiFEST 2016 in downtown Toronto’s Younge-Dundas Square on Saturday, May 28th. She also has the continued full support of the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana in Indianapolis where she was invited to film her new music video, “Tere Poojan Ko Bhagwan”.
Lerche’s career has included many stellar accomplishments, including winning the MH1 Punjabi Music Award for Best Non-Resident Indian Female Debut, receiving a Danish World Music Award for “Maahiya – featuring Cheshire Cat”, Popular Multilinguist Singer Award by Prof. Mohan Singh Foundation, and Rooh-E-Punjab Award (The Soul of Punjab) from the International Cultural Society Shamchurasi. The Punjabi University, Patiala, has recognized her grand work for Punjabi culture and language, the previous Indian Ambassador to Denmark, Ashok Kumar Attri, has named her as a Cultural Ambassador between Denmark and India, she was named ‘Ambassador For Peace’ by the Universal Peace Federation, the Interreligious Federation for World Peace, and Reverend Dr. Sun Myung Moon (founder), and, she was recently honored to be named, Christel House Ambassador by Christel DeHaan and Christel House International. She was the Danish voice of Barbie in Toy Story 2 & Toy Story 3, as well as the Indian plane Ishani in Disney’s Planes. She has performed her own Punjabi songs in the Danish version of Dancing with the Stars. And, her entire catalogue of music; “I Love A Piano” (released February 21st, 2005), “Heer From Denmark” (released November 18th, 2006), and, “Sadke Punjab Ton” (released November 11, 2014) remain popular and in high demand; especially her “Sadke Punjab Ton”, “Sammi”, and “Merea Ranjha” music videos, which have been viewed by more than 10 million music lovers on YouTube.

Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (P.C.S.) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization promoting education, good citizenship, community development, civic commitment and involvement, and preserving Punjabi Culture, language, sports and performing arts of the North-Indian state of Punjab among its community members and also mainstream Americans in the Midwest and beyond. PCS caters to this need both by directly organizing events that bring community members together from all over the Midwest region and by facilitating participation of its community members in mainstream activities. PCS has a holistic approach to community building and its comprehensive programming encompasses a variety of aspects of community life and its needs. PCS Night is an annual dinner and dance event. It features popular Punjabi entertainment artists and/or musical groups performing live on-stage. It is well loved by the community for bringing the distinctive Punjabi music with its heavy beats and foot-tapping numbers live to the people. The local community gets a taste of the state of the art performances from internationally known artists. International Bhangra Competition is an annual event held in conjunction with PCS Night. Competing teams from U.S. Canada and U.K. are invited to participate for lucrative prizes. It exposes the local youth and teams to an enhanced levels of art form and encourages a continuous improvement.
