Led by their fearless leader Jack White and his flavor of blues and garage rock with a southern twang, tens of thousands of battered not broken fans gathered together in the south lawn of Grant Park to close out Lollapalooza 2012. White’s performance at Lollapalooza 2012 was electrifying. It was the specific kind of analog electricity that you feel in your bones, not that you hear with your ears. It is the feeling you get the first time you hear the roar of a Hammond B3 through a Leslie.

White, undeniably excited to be headlining the final night of Lollapalooza 2012 traveled note by note, moment by moment, one song at a time through older familiar tracks from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and Dead Weather. The set list included more familiar songs such as “Black Math” , “Wasting My Time”, “Steady As She Goes”, “Seven Nation Army” mixed with new tracks from his acclaimed release “Blunderbuss”. He had two backing bands that played with him. The first which he introduced as “The Buzzards” was made up all men. The other which played the second half of the site were introduced to us as “The Peacocks” and was completely made up of all women. A defining moment of White’s set was when he paused to take in the skyline behind the crowd which was arguably the largest of the festival at the Red Bull Soundstage. It was clear during Jack’s set that he has some of the most loyal fans in music. Regardless of what act he performs in, they show up to show support. Even Aaron Paul the co star of Breaking Bad could be seen standing on the side of the stage in awe of White’s set. As the band hit their final notes and Lollapalooza 2012 came to a close, fans began to exit much slower this time then they did during the great Lollapalooza evacuation of 2012 just one day prior. Just like that grant park stood silent and still for the first time in 3 days, the lights and sound were turned off, the stages were torn down, and Grant Park will be returned to how it looked the day before 250,000 people attended Lollapalooza 2012. It was as if it never happened at all.
