The crowd has been super amped up leading in to this last performance of Jingle Ball’s 2017 Chicago stop.  They were not letting down and showed no signs of tiring.

Drew Taggart comes out to Alex Pall’s coaxing DJed tones of haunted anticipation.  His voice synthesized and delayed to selected verses of “The One”.  Then a soft beckoning of "Roses" is heard in the distance “Say you’ll never let me go”
...And, fireworks.
...And, drums!
Matt McGuire, the savage stickman new to the group this year.

It was well-curated, taking pieces of their various songs pieced together to tell the story of?!  What else?...Fucked up relationships unable to handle the demands of pervasive selfishness;  Fantastic electro-dance and building drums melding it all together.

“Alright, this is the last time we're gonna get to do this song, so lets get everyone sigin’ it, alright?”  Gotcha Drew.   Could this be the segue to the anticipated performance?

There are some pre-empted cheers of excitement.  We all know Halsey is in the house...and we all know what happened to her after “Closer” topped the charts.

We are all hopeful.

I’d already got wind of the stats: Halsey performed onstage with Chainsmokers maybe once or twice.  You could almost hear all the fingers in the arena crossing.

The crowd sings along so loud and they sound really good!  I mean really good!
And, really L.O.U.D.

After Drew pauses, the crowd continues singing the lyrics without Drew “So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover”...the show was officially stolen.

A bit of an oh-shit, Drew got it back, taking the crowd back to where he lost it - the crowd picked back up right along with him, just as loud as before.

And, wouldn’t you know it, Halsey came onstage singing her part...and the crowd continued to sing!!!  It was like they couldn’t choose to sing or they sang.  Some cheered.  At her first break, I heard the giddy high-pitched squeals of delight and disbelief.

Halsey asks the crowd to give it up for The Chainsmokers.
After Halsey leaves the stage, Drew gushes; “That was awesome I’m not gonna lie.  That's the most fun I’d ever had playing that song.  This place is popping!  Oh my goodness!”

It was confirmed.  “Yo shout-out to Halsey.  We played this song 3 times now, we’re so blessed.  We love the Midwest.  We love this city especially.”

They ended their performance of “Closer” with tons of streamers, continued communal chorus, incredible dance beats, and more confetti streamers strewn into the air with explosives.

Low and behold, The Chainsmokers had one more surprise for us.  Emily Warren!  Her voice so unique - the song would NOT be the same without her pleading “Don’t Let Me Down”.

Luckily, The Chainsmokers didn’t let us down.  They ended the night on a super high note.
